High school students today have a lot to balance, especially when they are involved in sports. Between homework, class time, practices, and games, it can feel stressful. Many student athletes work hard every day to stay caught up and keep their grades strong, even when their schedules get really busy.
Junior Yurem Lopez (11) a Mills soccer player states, “Sometimes if the games are early, then we’re able to leave earlier. It’s usually during the fourth or sixth period.”
Leaving class early can make it tough to keep up, but student athletes find ways to stay organized. A lot of students create routines to help them stay focused.
For Shamal Kumar (12) a Mills football and soccer player, he said, “I have a routine that I follow every day, and that routine helps me stay organized and do my homework and stay locked.”
Having a routine is important because it helps them know exactly when to study and when to get ready for practice. Sticking to a schedule can make the workload feel more manageable.
“So the way I manage my time is after school. I usually go to a library and tutoring there, and then I get help for my work. I finish all my work there, and then right after, I go straight to practice because by the time I’m done, practice is already going to be starting,” Lopez comments
This shows how committed student athletes are. They know that staying focused on their schoolwork first makes sports more enjoyable because they don’t have to stress about missing assignments. Overall, even though sports can make the school day more complicated, many high school athletes still keep up with their work. They stay disciplined, follow routines, and try their best not to fall behind. Their dedication shows that with good time management, it’s possible to succeed both in the classroom and on the field.
