As we kick off into the second round of the soccer season for both girls and boys varsity, they’ve both been working hard and improving, even with some challenges along the way. Both teams are focused on pushing forward, staying motivated, and finishing the season strong.
The varsity girls soccer team had a tough start to the season because several players were injured early on. These injuries affected important positions on the field, making it harder for the team to play at full strength. Even so, the girls continue to work hard, support each other, and try to improve every game.
“Our league record is 2-1 right now, with about six more games to go,” says varsity captain Miila Hassan (11). “But we had a rough start due to all the injuries, leaving our midfield, striker and one of our center backs out for the rest of the season.”
On the boys side, the varsity team has been having a strong season so far and is currently near the top of the standings. Their main goal is to keep pushing and finish even higher as the season goes on.
“We’re currently in third or fourth,” said varsity coach Danny Almanza. “But right now, we’re aiming for second, so somewhere in between.”
Almanza believes the boys team has made noticeable progress and thinks consistency will determine how far they go this season. He highlights the importance of commitment and showing up ready to go.
“I think we’ve made a lot of improvements,” explained Almanza. “So right now, just staying consistent, like having numbers, is the most important thing … with our training. Attendance is big right now.”
Overall, both varsity soccer teams are focused on growth, teamwork and finishing the season strong at the top of the standings.
