On March 6, Harry Styles dropped his fourth solo album “Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.” This marked his first project since “Harry’s House” in 2022, releasing the fan girl’s waters upon the Harry Styles drought that once was.
This album continues his musical trend of very upbeat songs contrasted by a slower song that’s bound to pull at the heart strings of a drunk girl in a club bathroom that you meet once and never forget. This is ultimately who the album is for; it’s an electric dance pop album. The production takes inspiration from many ‘80s dance songs with heavy synths and vocals that work as if it were a time machine sent to put you on an excellent adventure.
Unfortunately, with this hyper dance focused production, this led to the lyrics not being the greatest in my opinion. In some songs, lyrics were repeated to the point of no return and that genuinely felt nauseating. This poses a question for me, because if you are dancing in a club to this album not in the right mind, will this be what you need or will that be a recipe for disaster? This is an issue because this resulted in me not having as much fun as I could.
Currently I find that his slower songs off this album such as “Waiting Game” to be more my speed, highlighting the talent that Styles has for writing. I’m not saying that the more dance focused-ness of this album was bad, it’s just disappointing because I do believe that he’s a fantastic writer, so not seeing that prioritized in some songs was sad to see. Considering that, I still see myself bumping the album frequently because if you focus on the production, it’s a fun time. With this, I’d probably give it a 8.5/10 after a first listen because I do believe that it will grow on me when I listen to it more in the future, and I do believe that once I’m in a situation where I can appreciate it more, this album will be a 10 or 9.5 out of 10.
