Figure skater, Olympian and Bay Area native Alysa Liu is coming to Mills on May 14 to celebrate her amazing achievement and highlight the pride that the Bay Area gets to feel with one of their very own residents winning two gold medals. Alysa Liu is going around the Bay Area to schools to discuss her wins, inspire other young people, meet the Bay Area youth and more. We are lucky that Mills happens to be one of the schools that will be graced with her presence. How do Mills students feel about meeting a gold medalist?
Meeting someone from something as big as the Olympics, what will it be like to breathe the same air as a celebrity? Will our very own Mills students gain her talent? Senior figure skater Emily Ormiston (12) seems to have lots of love for the figure skater, saying, “I am SO excited that she’s coming. I’ve seen a lot of videos online of her just recently flying back into SFO so it’s so cool that she’s back in the Bay and coming to Mills.” She added, “I am so excited to meet her. We’ve actually skated at the same rink but we never talked to each other before.” Ormiston isn’t the only Mills student – if that was the case Mills might as well be a home school – so let’s see what another student has to say. On the more nonchalant side of things, senior Octavia Savarese (12) mentioned, “I would love for Alysa Liu to come to Mills.” She added, “I would be very excited to meet her.” It seems that Alysa Liu is not only loved by the online world: the Bay Area is proud to claim her as our own. When meeting celebrities, you don’t want to be perceived as a doofus, so how do Mills students think they will act?
If it’s a celebrity you love, you might be one to geek out, so how do Mills students see themselves acting? Nonchalant, frame mogging senior Savarese kept what she had to say brief. “I don’t necessarily see myself fangirling because I don’t wanna make her uncomfortable.“ She then decided to stop mogging to add a bit more to the vibe max, “I think she’ll like my vibe because I like her vibe.” If she is lucky enough, maybe Alysa Liu will frame mog with her, getting the ultimate TikTok. On the other hand, it appears that Ormiston seems to be a bit more ecstatic, saying, “I definitely see myself fangirling especially since she just won gold for us.” There’s different ways on how someone might react to seeing a celebrity depending on how much they love them.
At the end of the day, you want to be seen as the best version of yourself to impress a celebrity. It seems that the Mills community is ready to put their best foot forward when it comes to meeting Alysa Liu!
